Linear lighting systems offer the flexibility and creativity to install them almost anywhere there is drywall in your home. Thanks to its LED technology, you can create virtually any pattern and size, as long as you plan accordingly. And thanks to the inherent low temperature of LED you are not limited as to where you can install them in the home.
The base system consists of lighting strips of varying lengths and transformers that are installed inside the walls. By choosing the correct combination of sizes you can create linear strips in different angles that can, for example, border the roof line of a room or hallway, create horizontal, vertical, diagonal patterns or crosshatch patterns as an accent light wall.
The installation itself is a multi step process that begins with leaving the correct space in your walls where the linear light would be fitted. The kits come in different light temperatures which should be considered when evaluating overall color temperature use in the room and the look you are going for. There are dimmable options available as well.
Probably the most challenging aspect of working with linear lighting systems is the actual design. If you’d like to learn more about the myriad of design options available, please do not hesitate to contact me.
You then wire the transformers to the electrical switches that will be powering your lights. These transformers will be placed inside the walls, perfectly hidden from view.
The strip light housings are then inserted into the crevices left available for install, are secured with screws, and then the edges are covered with plaster. A good plaster job is key to a seamless look. Once set, paint or any other wall covering can be added to finish the look.
